Who we look after

Trusted by Wiltshire’s minibus operators

If your organisation runs a minibus, we can keep it MOT’d, inspected, serviced and repaired — with honest advice and no jargon.

Everything in one place

Our minibus services

Class IV & Class V minibus MOTs

We test both classes in-house — Class IV (up to 12 passenger seats) and Class V (more than 12 seats, which needs DVSA designated approval that many local garages simply don't hold). Whatever the seat count, your minibus is tested here.

10 / 6-week safety inspections

Regular safety inspections for Section 19 & 22 permit operators, carried out by a qualified engineer and including a brake test — with the paperwork you need to keep on file. Book them in and we'll keep you on schedule.

Full minibus servicing

Routine and manufacturer-interval servicing to keep your minibus reliable and safe between MOTs — oil and filters, brakes, steering, suspension, tyres and a thorough all-round check. Fleet or a single vehicle, we look after both.

Minibus repairs

Diagnostics and mechanical repairs — brakes, clutches, exhausts, suspension, electrics and everything in between. If something fails an MOT or an inspection, we can put it right and re-check it, so it's all handled under one roof.

One garage for MOT, inspections, servicing and repairs.

No juggling three suppliers, no gaps in the paperwork — book it all with Redvers and we’ll keep your minibus on the road.

Class IV & Class V — we do both

Which MOT class is my minibus?

Class IV

Up to 12 passenger seats

Smaller minibuses — up to 12 passenger seats — are tested as Class IV, the same class as a car or small van. Straightforward and quick to book in.

Class V — designated approval

More than 12 passenger seats

Larger minibuses with more than 12 passenger seats need a Class VMOT, which requires special DVSA designated approval. A lot of local garages can’t offer it — we can, so you don’t have to travel miles or split your vehicles between testers.

Not sure how your seats are counted? Give us a call on 01793 541010 and we’ll help you work it out.

Section 19 & 22 permits

Minibus safety inspections, explained simply

If you run a minibus on a Section 19 or Section 22 permit, you’re generally required to have it safety-inspected at regular intervals — separately from the MOT. Here’s the gist:

How often

Under Section 19 & 22 permits, minibuses are generally inspected every 10 weeks if under 12 years old, and every 6 weeks once they're 12 years or older.

Who and what

Inspections must be carried out by a qualified engineer and now include a brake test — a proper check of the safety-critical systems, not just a quick look over.

Records

Inspection records should be kept for at least 15 months, so you can show a clear, continuous history if you're ever asked for it.

In addition to the MOT

Safety inspections are separate from — and additional to — the annual MOT and routine servicing. It's a common surprise for operators that all three are needed.

Please confirm your own permit conditions. The intervals and requirements above are the general position and can vary with your permit, vehicle age and how it’s used — so always check the specific conditions that apply to you. If you’re not sure, we’re happy to talk it through and help you build a simple inspection schedule that keeps you covered.

First MOT at 1 year. Remember a minibus needs its first MOT at just 1 year old — earlier than the 3 years for a car — and annually after that.

Common questions

Minibus MOT & inspections — your questions answered

Do you do Class V minibus MOTs in Wiltshire?

Yes. We're set up for both Class IV and Class V minibus MOTs in-house. Class V (more than 12 passenger seats) needs DVSA designated approval, which many local garages don't have — so if you've been turned away elsewhere, we can almost certainly help.

How often does a minibus need a safety inspection?

For Section 19 & 22 permit minibuses the general rule is every 10 weeks if the vehicle is under 12 years old, and every 6 weeks once it's 12 or older, by a qualified engineer and including a brake test. It's a good idea to confirm the exact conditions on your own permit, as requirements can vary — we're happy to talk it through.

Do school and community minibuses need both an MOT and inspections?

Yes — the annual MOT, regular safety inspections and routine servicing are three separate things, and permit-holding minibuses generally need all of them. That's exactly why we offer them together in one place, so nothing slips through the gaps.

When does a minibus need its first MOT?

A minibus needs its first MOT at 1 year old — earlier than a car, which is first tested at 3 years. After that it's tested annually.

Can you MOT, inspect and service our minibus in one visit?

That's the idea — we're a one-stop shop for minibus MOT, safety inspections, servicing and repairs. Book it in and we'll coordinate the work so your vehicle is off the road for as little time as possible.

Which areas do you cover for minibuses?

We're based in Swindon and look after minibus operators right across Wiltshire — including Chippenham, Trowbridge, Devizes, Melksham, Calne, Royal Wootton Bassett and Salisbury, as well as the surrounding towns and villages.
